I really don’t care too much about politics one way or the other. The same shit happens no matter which party is in office. Personally, I’m conservative in some ways (if I had my way, criminals would be in big trouble… the infamous “Furman Salt Mines” would be humming right along), and fairly liberal in others (I’m not about to tell people they don’t deserve healthcare.)
That said, I find this whole backlash over the Obama school speech funny. Because the people against it use words like “Brainwash”… gee, originally, the only places I heard that word used to describe this issue were FOX news and other right-wing media. Then, after that, all of a sudden, people started repeating it.
Isn’t that just a tad ironic? And, if you really think about it, kinda pathetic?
Have a nice Labor Day weekend, all.
It was really bad over the holiday weekend visiting my mom in Florida. There were people on the news explaining why they didn’t want their children “exposed to that” so they’re pulling their kids from school that day.
UM Yeah… keep your kids home from school to protect them from hearing the president of the United States talk about the importance of being in school. Brilliant.
Mr. Furman, You’ll surely want to remove the s____ word from you Sept. 4 blog. I’ve been captivated by your information for the past hour, but you “blew it” with one vulgar word. Respectfully, Dee Anna
Dee Anna,
I am pleased that you like the blog, and I’m not one to wantonly just curse for no good reason, but for this post, I think it better reflects my overall political feeling than had I written “stuff” or “things”.
Although I usually avoid it, sometimes a curse word just works, not for the reaction it causes (that’s always a bad reason for a writer to use one), but because it most accurately describes the situation as I see it. In my mind, it better emphasizes that I think the issues we have are largely unsolvable, because no matter which way any politician or party goes, half the country screams because they’re on the “other side”.
I don’t expect you to agree with me – indeed, you make a valid point – but I do hope you understand bit more as to “why” I used it.
I hope you have a nice weekend, and thanks for commenting.
edit: You may not want to read the motivational poster post 🙂 (although it’s another good example of where a curse word just “works”.)
