You may find it odd that I have an EDI consulting page on my copywriting website, but many years ago, I used to do EDI mapping and e-commerce programming for one of the world's largest knife companies. I'm really good with EDI and e-commerce ERP systems in general.

Since I still have the old STMap edi mapping software that I used, I still do EDI work for a few clients that use the old software I used to work with. So I'll list a few names of software - if you recognize any of these (or they came up in a search), I might be able to help you:

What the HECK is EDI, Dan????

Ok, for those of you who clicked on this page out of curiosity, here's what EDI is: EDI stands for "Electronic Data Interchange", and it's how large companies communicate in terms of commerce. When WalMart (for example) wants to buy shoes from Nike, they don't call up and say "ok, send four of model A to store one, six of model B to store three, etc etc" - they'd be on the phone for thirty years.

Instead, they use a coded communication system called EDI (which has been around since the 70's). And within this system, there are translators (EDI Mapping programs) that translate this data. This is needed because every company uses a different "master" software platform (usually called an ERP system). That's where I would come in - I'd translate the EDI data into a format that my client's system could understand. So you have one system (WalMart's) going to a standard code (EDI) that then needs to be translated to Nike's system. Think of EDI mapping as the Rosetta Stone.

Anyway, that's the quick and dirty version of what EDI is. If anyone out there has an EDI issue and thinks I can help, I'd be happy to at least discuss it. Hey, it can't hurt!
