Web Developers

I'm a little annoyed right now, so I'll try to say this as nice as possible:
YOU CANNOT BE A WEB DEVELOPER IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HTML.
You just can't. I don't care if you bought into some "web marketing" franchise, or you know some CMS (content management system) or whatnot - if you can't even manually put a break between your bullet points (because you don't know anything beyond the WYSIWYG editor), go find another line of work. Because web development isn't your thing.
Sorry about that, but I'm a little mad. Let's just say I've had one too many instances of painstakingly crafting someone's web copy to flow and be extremely readable, only to see it butchered by a cut-rate "web developer wannabee" who can't even decipher how to do a simple bulleted list.
I'm not saying using a CMS or WYSIWYG editor is bad - many fine web developers use them (they are great timesavers.) But if you can't get in there and manually muck with the HTML if needed, then you're no more a web developer than the guy at your local Arby's is a gourmet chef.
My clients pay me good money for excellent copy. And I *detest* seeing it ruined (and it does get ruined) because their web person doesn't know how to manually code when needed.
