I'm an entrepreneur, and I'd describe myself as “desperate.” I've had a terrible time trying to make it in the town I currently live in. Because I use a wheelchair, I run into a lot of architectural and social barriers that have kept me out of finding gainful employment working for somebody else. I gave up for a while thinking that earning a good living and having a quality lifestyle weren't in the cards for me. What changed my mind a bit is realizing that I don't necessarily need to work for somebody else to earn a good income; I can work for myself at home! I already have a computer and an Internet connection, and I have some drawing, imaging, and web publishing software. At present, I'm working on a graphic-design service that I call “freeforalldesigns.com.” I plan to expand the business and hone my skills in the coming years, and make my business a profitable venture.

Anyway, I know that there's got to be a lot of people like me who have encountered the same kind of problems, and who, like me, wish to have a good income and make something out of their lives. Social barriers and inaccessible work sites aren't going away, but the new technologies may provide a means by which people can still succeed in their chosen careers working from home. Are people who have traditionally lived in the margin of society a new kind of entrepreneur? I believe we may well be.
